Willard, William (American painter, 1819-1904)

William Willard (1819-1904) of Sturbridge, Mass., was a jeweler's apprentice in Worcester, Mass., before becoming an artist, and an instructor at the School of Fine Arts in Boston. From 1837 until 1903, Willard painted the portraits of many prominent men, including Daniel Webster (1782-1852) and Charles Sumner (1811-1874).
